I've got 2 x 2.5L of light grey Ral 7030. I want to try and tint one of the tins a light pastel green colour. Does anyone know if this is likely to work or just end up a waste of paint.
Any suggestions on how much green I would need to tint 2.5l and what I could use?

I'm sure Covkid will agree that there is no problem with mixing diferent Combicolor tints to make your own colour, but it is very hard to mix paint to match a colour already on your van. I tried to make VW pastel white so that I could just paint one section to match the rest of my van, and I couldn't get a good colour match. That's why I went and painted the whole bottom of my van to go for the two-tone look.
As to how much green to use, I reckon you will just need a small tin of green to go with your light gray. I think its quite important that you only try and mix one large batch (enough to do the whole van) of the pastel green paint though as you may find that subsequant mixes may not be an exact match.
My suggestion would be to add a small amount of green (say a ladel full) directly to your grey paint until it looks about what you are looking for and paint it on to a spare body panel or old fridge door to see how it would look and then go from there. If it was me I would just paint a square foot of my van and leave it over night to see how the colour looks in the morning. If its too light just add a little more and then and paint annother test patch. This paint covers so well that you'll never see any test patches after your second coat.
Best of luck

Here's a before and after, it's had two coats but I haven't done any flatting after the second. Still a vast improvement though.

Evening All,
After a frantic few weeks I've managed to go from this:
to this
(first roll)
(one coat of lovely RAL 2000)
to this:
(three coats, yet to flat the top coat back).....
I've been so busy painting, that I've missed Lllamapup's posts, which would have been an inspiration whilst painting.
I reckon I'll need a fourth coat, just because the small bits of 'poo brown' stripe I left on are still showing through.
Amazed at the quality though - if anyone is thinking of doing it, just read the WIKI, this thread and then get rolling.
Now just need to do the crankseal, put the new wheels on, renew the window rubbers, get some bumper end caps and sort out the white top half that doesn't look as good any more now the bottom is so spangly........
Cheers,
Alex

I'm liking the brown! Looks really good Rainman. Are you going to try and replace your retro "Kamper" stickers?

That's looking good too T25Convert. Is that RAL 2000 orange?
I'm hoping to get my final coats of paint on next weekend. This weekend is looking to be too wet to paint. Might get some flatting back done though.
Good work there.

LLamapup, as you've come into this almost blind, from only intending to paint a few areas to painting right round and getting reasonable results, I hope I can count on you to help answer posts. I try to get in here as often as I can to answer questions but I think you'll know as much as me now!
Best regards to Nigel the cat
Can I remind everyone to give the RAL number they've used as I add new pics to WIKI. Those who feature in the WIKI and the RAL number isn't there, could they PM me so I can add them. Latest pics have been added but those reading it will want the RAL number you used (or mix of) - cheers.

Must say Ratty, Antony saw pic of your camper on here tonight and even with the colour change said "The people with the hamsters!"
Will bring him over again - he really liked you two.

Nah, I did like the decal and considered masking it and painting around but it was badly scuffed on one side. I've messed about so much with the van anyway that it's not really an Autohomes Kamper any more.

No worries, let us know how the rattle cans go and if they match the paint your going to roller on
