Dont look for the obvious cars for an AAZ - ibiza's had AAZ's later than VW models. Jetta's dont fetch the same cash as a golf or passat....

Yes the jointly owned and operated DoDoka (one Syncro from two) has an AAZ out of a Seat Ibiza, runs beautifully... the car was about £110 a few years ago.

I had four in my garage till the other day ..... then Paul bought one! I now have three in my Garage!

Bought two more AAZ engines complete today. Drove one and heard the other run etc .... That makes 5 AAZ engines in my shed ... !!

When you said "in my garage" I thought you were refering to my post about the 1Y in my garage.

Although I have been looking at tdi...... plan would be fix jx, buy a late 90's tdi car, then fit it when gearbox rebuilt.
Doing research biggest problem seems to be making it mechanical, and also that it seems to cost many thousands to do . How come it costs so much?

But if jx is knackered, syncropaddys inbox will be getting a battering

Just had the AA out again, have to admit he was pretty useless, didn't want to know really. Started going on about taking the engine out to get the injector pump off
Well at least It's going to get a free tow tomorrow to the garage

SyncroAndy is on with electronic TDi at the mo, figuring out all the wrinkles, electronic means VAGcom diagnostics and chippability/tuning to suit the vehicle, Russel is running electronic at the mo, less wiring work than doing a scoobie installation, so why go mechanical ?
Tim at Ultimate Engineering in brisol is offering TDi installations, has recently done one for one of my gearbox customers
You don't have to go quite as far as Doug with transplanting electronics,

also long term it may help with emmissions which in time will be increasingly relevant in keeping old vehicles on the road, otherwise how else will the powers that be get us to buy into the new thing permenant growth economy nonsense, you can already see the gap between our vehicles and the next oldest things generally on the road and that's due to the 1992 emmissions regs changes, I reckon there will be more TD T25s than T4s left on the road within 5 years

Was it syncroandy who put the ecu under the rear seat?
Well for me to go tdi route, the jx will have to be fixable, and the tdi will be a spare time project, otherwise it will be a AAZ

VW put the ECU for the MV petrol engines under the rear seat, but it would be a sensible location for any ECU to protect it from the elements; the grommet to fit the cable through the body is still available from VW, and obviously there's a pressing in the panel waiting to be punched/cut out

Well the van is with the pro's now, lets hope it doesn't cost to much.

Engine has had it, bottom end rebuild needed. So AAZ it is..........And i've found one 92000miles and is the complete engine. Might get it delivered this week.
Might be trying a DIY option Lack of tools for the job is what will let me down, so might try and get my neighbour to do it.
New clutch, maybe an oil cooler, all depends on cash flow really. So the "getting there" thread will continue

have you driven it or heard it running?

No, but should come with a guarantee of some kind

also may be a good time too buy the tank straps that you have been avoiding, if the engine is comming out then the gear box may as well come out with it, only have to unbolt the prop, dis the linkage, remove a breather, and 2 mounting nuts and bolts.

let me know if you need a lift, i have friend crane still from when i swaped my engine, i recon with a few of us it would only take a morning to remove the engine and the box as one unit, i have most of the tools to do the work, your welcome to borow them on a as need basis (stardard rules, you break them you buy them).

give us a shout if you need any thing.

Oh yes, when the AAZ is in and working, a few choice bits will be sold. new injectors, recon head, new turbo ect ect
