Fingle bridge is a good idea.
Food is nothing special, but not outrageously expensive and satisfying enough.
Location is stunning however, Booootifull !

Sounds good to me!
Will normal road tyres be ok for shiney route?
Also meant to say....spare seat if needed (no boring farts though, or it might be a very short trip!!

)

Roger, so your route will take you too Fingle Bridge as well?
Me and Mal have around 8 miles of lanes to drive, a few are a bit muddy, and not all will be suitable for a T4, although The Old Manaton Road and Fingle Glen would be, as well as the river crossing at North Bovey etc. One is very tight for my hightop, so i will bring my chainsaw etc.
Our shiney route will go as far as Sticklepath on the A30, so those traveling back North or South have got good access to get back on the road, for those with a bit more time some of the lanes can be driven backwards which will take us back to Futbus Dave at Bovey tracey on the A38 Drumbridges Trago Mills turn off.
If people want we can convoy from J27 again.
If we aim to leave Daves at 10.30 to 11.00 then Fingle bridge would come at about 13.00
I will give them a ring, but if the weather is a little inclement I shouldnt think there will be too many there.
Mal and me will drive the scenic route on Friday and call in at the pub en-route. there is a very large National trust carpark opposite the pub, with facilities which will be ideal for the dubs and rovers to meet up in.
Simon.

Just to reinforce some of what Simon and Roger have said...
Although we start at the same place, (Futbus'), the knarly and interesting routes will probably go very separate ways. I suspect we will split the easier route into two groups at least due to numbers but both Simon and I will have driven it the day before to clear anything awkward etc. In fact, we drove some of it in the snow last week and although good slippery fun, it was not a problem. Anyone worried about damage on the easier route should not be. It is most (but not entirely) unlikely as we are a bit soft about our vans too.

Road tyres will probably be ok on the easy route with a bit of will power (bring a rope if you have it though!) but not ok on the knarly one, you have been warned!
Anyone coming who has the Dartmoor OL map should bring it and a pencil to mark the route in case we split. If we think a lane is a bit much for the T4 or Discos

we will say and there's always a road way around.
We will check in at the Fingle Glen pub, whatever it's called, and let them know of likely numbers etc.
Don't forget, Futbus' workshop at 0930 and try to roll at 1030 (address on earlier post). Simon will be at J27 to convoy down the M5, I imagine at around 0845? (Correct me if I'm wrong there...)

Just so you know, Phil's T4 isnt standard.
Its been lifted by about 2 inches and is on BFG all terrains and its got a rear difflock.
No under run protection however...

Mmmm... I can't think of any bits where under run protection would be essential. We'll know for sure by the end of Friday's recce.
P.S. Love the bit in Simon's last post about the ford, which in this case is the wet bit you drive through...

Just had a chat with Roger who has come up with some great sounding lanes, challenging without being damaging.

Have a fantastic day out, I've got my vehicle a lot better, but it still partially empties the cooling system after 15 miles on the motorway. I'll spend Saturday cooling system flushing thermostat testing in the hope that I'll be fit to make it next time.

How about 0830 for a 0845 departure. At J27 on the South side there is a Shell Garage, at the back is a car park. Meet there. Hopefully the M5 contingent will be there and we can convoy it.
Just going out recceing now.
Simon.

Bugger! Just fitted my replacement VC and it doesn't work either! That's the third vc in a row that's kippered...
My question now is whether my truck will be capable to do the 'scenic' route with only two wheel drive. I have diff locks and new mud terrains. Any thoughts?
