How to deal with this little bit of rust

I have the small patch of rust at the bottom of the windscreen and I intend to deal with it and replace the seal (also going to paint the van). The outside part is very solid despite the rust and I cannot get a hole to form. The second pic is from the inside of the van taken with the camera looking up from the footwell. yes there is rust there but not alot. From the experience of you guys, what would be the best way to deal with this. Once new seals are on and rust removed from the outside (and digging/cleaning out the seam) would I be able to treat the other rust from the underside with chemicals/rust converter

Also is it possible to replace the windscreen on your own once I have got new rubbers...my wife is pretty rubbish when it comes to 'helping' with stuff like this.

Depending on how bad this is under the windscreen I may be buying and learning how to weld

just done this on front and rear windscreens with the help of my wife... although it is *possible* to do it by yourself, i think if you havent done this before, it is much easier with 2 people to refit: one on the inside gradually drawing out the string to guide the rubber seal over the window lip, whilst the person outside is banging the seal to locate and "persuade" the window to sit into the opening more securely.

well we go away this coming weekend and then the window is coming out - so we will soon know.....might start looking a welding machine and a welding course

This is is with the outside part of the rubber removed and glass still in




and both sides wire brushed and sort of cleaned up




The area around the holes has been wired brushed back to bare good metal and I cannot see other areas of flaking paint even....so looks like I've got away with not too much of a problem.

What would be the advised way to go forward with this? Would this still require welding or cutting out?

I'm going to try and source a VW seal as per the wiki....can anyone point me in the direction of said seal?

Cut out a rectangular section back to bare metal. Make a patch and weld it in.

Or because it looks like a smallish hole you could try just patching it with the welder on the lowest setting and just tiny blobs of weld at a time allowing it to cool between blobs. Wedge a bit of copper pipe behind the hole to provide support for the weld.

Or if you're sure you have all the rust removed you could just use some chopped fibreglass filler.

Best to cut patch hole as suggested. For seal - VWemporium. It does mention this in WIKI.
