Re: Finally started my interior for the van :) RESTO STARTED
Hi all a quick update of the progress on the van. I finally got it from barracks home by towing it on the trailer with a frontera poor thing was struggling but the main thing was i got it home to start some more real work. Havent made as much progress as i had hoped but i am in the process of packing my house up to move up to darlington but i have managed to tackle the monsterous mess the guy had made before i bought the van. It was painted in black house paint on the tailgate and front so tackled that first as it was horrible to look at. After taking the van back to bare metal and filling the dents and bad welding i have primed the whole of the tailgate and only the top half of the front as the weather is not the greatest recently. Also i have measured up the hinge posistions so when i get hold of my welder i will tac them in place and thats the bed ready for the foam and seat backs sprayed all four wheels white with the centre caps red. If you havent already gathered the colour scheme is red and white split. Anyway heres a few pictures of the progress
Brining her back to bare metal

Both halves primed

Front taken back to bare metal

Front fillered up

Front top half primed

Wheel before

Wheel back to bare metal

Finished wheel and centre cap

Center caps sprayed

Kick board carpeted and and VW sign in place, I do have red little neons to recess into the VW sign to set it off

White wheels on the van havent taken of the red centers yet

I had a little trouble getting one of the ridiculous wheel nuts off them huge threads so had to chisel another off so am looking for some new ones HINT HINT. once i got them off my 5 year old son wanted to help me change the wheel and said he would roll it over for me so as i was getting the last wheel nut off i heard a TWANG TING TING CRASH...... GUESS WHAT IT WAS???
Hope you like the progress

Jim, while you're doing the front, if it were me I'd buy a decent windscreen rubber from VW Emporium, cut the old one out with a stanley knife and weld up any damage on windscreen lip before refitting rubber. If the screen hasn't been out, its sure to be rotten under there (they all are) and will emerge, spoiling your paintwork and eventually rotting the cab floor. You can do it in a morning at a push.
I added a piece in the WIKI for anyone wanting to tackle the job: https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Bo ... well_leaks" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I know you've already done a lot of work to front but if you don't tackle this job it will come back to haunt you. Better done before final paint.

Ralph I have been informed that the windscreen has been out recently and have been welded up which is a bonus as all my tools are in the new house. Thanks for the heads up though

How easy did those legacy seats go in? I'm going to be doing a scooby conversion soon, and was thinking of fitting the seats too, as my old ones are terrible
