I just wanted to clarify some wiring queries I have. Planning to fit a courtesy light over the passenger seat (I have a hard headliner in our Westy so no existing dummy hole I'm afraid).

I'm planning to pull the feed from the drivers side over the headlining.

When looking at the existing wiring I can't work out the extra cables. Does anyone know what does what exactly? Am I right in saying this has already been tapped (have no idea where it goes)?

Any help would be much appreciated. Ps I have search the forums

The single terminal brown on the left is the permanent positive 12v feed to the light which is joined to another brown which will carry on the permanent 12v to the next courtesy light (sliding door probably). The other two are both cables that go to -ve earth; one goes straight to earth so that when the switch is in that position the light comes on regardless of whether the door is open or not, the other goes to -ve earth via the door switch in the 'A' pillar and only connects earth when the door is opened so that when the light switch is in that position the light only comes on when the door is open. The middle position is 'Off' obviously.

When you say 'brown', I guess you mean 'red' - on both occasions.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. So red + (obviously on the left), one brown to earth on door switch, one to permanent earth, but what is the third brown? Unused sliding door one? Thank you btw!

I'd guess that, like the doubled-up red, the extra brown is the continuation of the permanent earth circuit on to the next place it's needed - possibly the sliding door as 1664 suggested for the live. So by that logic, the brown that looks like it has a white stripe in the photo is probably the door-switched earth. You can easily tell - if the switch is positioned so that the brown/white wire is in the circuit, does the door switch control the light?

Of course!!

Just consulted manual. Yep, other brown is looped earth to other courtesy lights (if fitted) and brown/white to cab door switch(es).

Sorry about the brown & red confusion, they look much the same on my laptop

I am slightly colour blind but I can see the difference if I look closely. Hardly in yer face red though is it?

That's what you think. It's bright lipstick red. Anyone will tell you.

I've come to an impasse. I'm trying to feed the wiring over top of the headliner (ours is hard rather than soft) with the use of a straightened coat hanger, and despite feeding in it's not appearing on the other side. Doesn't feel like anything is blocking it but obviously something's not letting get through. Any ideas?

Feeding from left to right.

I have the same headliner, it looks as though it's a couple minutes work to remove it. Might be easier to do that as you'll probably find the cable is just curling around

That's what I was thinking but the header runs up behind the start of the Westy shelving/ducting that runs either side.

Can't believe the straightened coat hanger isn't taking it through.

there is a lot of insulation up there, so its probably hitting that

Would you unscrew your headlining from the back or front edge out of interest?
