Afternoon all ,

Latest saga on my 1984 DG 1,9 W/C .

Had new Stainless Front to Rear Coolant Pipes fitted VW franchise local month ago .
Took van for few short runs , all ok .

Came back from Nantwich ( 120 mile trip ) , 2 mile from home no hot air from Heater .
Temp gauge needle just past twelve o clock .
Shot home .
Whipped off Engine cover , steam in Engine Bay .
Header Tank empty , Top Up Tank on Max level .
Sensor gauge flopping about , hardly any thread left on gauge , What the blithering heck !
Found remains of clear Sealant around Sensor Gauge hole .
Had garage snapped Sensor thread , and used Sealant ? Has it blown out !? Dunno .

Got another Coolant Sensor off a freind's running well Syncro . That's another pint !
Filled with new Coolant ,bled Baxter way , all ok ., took over an hour Engine running all time .
Fan working perfectly .
10 mile run , opened Rad bleeder , coolant no air . Good .
2 mile run , opened Rad bleeder , no air also no coolant , Fan had come then switched off , ok .
Checked Header Tank , full , Top Up Tank on Max ..
Temp Needle bang on centre , as usual , no sign of overheating .
Van driven to Penrith ( 60 mile ) Top Up ok.. Not had chance to look at Header as Daughter using van .
Thankfully straight there and not moving untill Monday .
Can anyone explain why at that time on bleeding no air or Coolant was there ?
A shaggy dog story I know , thanks for your patience !
Atb ,
Chris
