Fuse box and relays ID

Hi,

I’ve carried out a search to see if I could find any info on identifying what fuses and relays are for their respective purpose. Found a redundant post that’s all.

Anyone help? I have an ‘82 2.0 air cooled.
Had a look through the manuals and can’t work out from there...

Thanks

Jason

Sorry if I sound a bit blunt but what can't you figure out? the fuses are numbered so it's pretty straightforward.

The black cover over the fuse box normally has the information about the fuses embedded on the inside. Mine does so check and see if yours does.

Thanks for your posts, I couldn’t find your pics in my manuals. I must be missing something.
Sorry to ask but mines an 82, I noticed your post had 83 onwards, do you know if they are the same for the different years.

I’ll investigate more as to the imprinted info.

Thanks for your kind help guys

Jay

There are three main periods.
79 to 82 are for diesel and air-cooled petrol boxer

83 to 85 are for diesel and water-cooled petrol wasserboxer.

After that the fusebox changed to the CE1 format.

So if you have air-cooled petrol, ignore the radiator fuse. Air cooled do not have a radiator.

The thread title mentions relays.

Being an early van, I suspect you have..
No 18 -X relief relay
No 21 or 22 - indicator flasher relay.
No 53 - general purpose 40 amp 4 pin relay.
