No cranking...starter motor??

Hi all...

The van is not turning over at all..

Bit of a backstory...

About a week ago i had the battery light come on the dash and 12v running. Made it home and noticed the red wire from alt to starter had come loose thanks to a corroded terminal.. fix it no probs. Went to start the van and nothing.. looked at black red wire to solenoid and it was loose.. turned over. Started and battery light out and 14v

Yesterday after using the van went to go to work and turned key... nothing. Looked at spade on solenoid.. conected and tight.

Had a look tonight. Not sure where to go next..

Have 12.5v. I turn the key to crank the engine and it goes down to 11.3v.. i hear a click. Put the engine doesnt crank. I have tried jumping main battery wire to solenoid but does nothin

Any ideas anyone. Starter? Ignition switch?

Have you cleaned the earth terminals, have read previous threads and this is what members point to mostly. Also have you checked battery is ok and fully charged.

I think the starter motor is earthed by its body to the vehicle after reading other threads, have a look at this to see if it helps.

Did the battery recover after initial drop in voltage, maybe worth giving it a good charge and in any case disconnect before cleaning around starter motor and other earths in any case, I am not a lecky and therefore unsure what is live in certain areas even with the ignition off.

It does go back to 12.5v

Battery sounds ok then, mine settles at about that voltage but would prefer a bit higher good luck with further problem solving may just be as simple as given items a good wire brushing and cleaning.

Tested red and black wire to solenoid. 12v + when cranking which i assume means ignition switch is working.

Will get under van in the next few days to check and clean up earth points

Hope this chart helps too...

Also an unenclosed starter battery behind drivers seat can arc across to seat rails if starter earth is poor. Check gearbox earth strap and cleanliness of contact between starter body and engine mount point.
