Hard to guess what happened first but I reckon loose plug to start with allowing the exhaust gases up the gap which gradually eroded the ali and once the flow was sufficient overheated the central electrode causing the loss of that. Once the gap was messed up it would have affected the timing adding to overheating possibly.

Loose plug overheats due to lack of conduction to take heat away, detonation/pre-ignition results in centre electode bring destroyed....

All positive stuff, then. :D
Looking back over last two months the camper had a new habit of starting normally but immediately cutting out. Then a slow depression of throttle while cranking required to get it started. As if it had slightly choked itself. Not every time. Say one in eight. Its my daily driver.

Thanks to both. No overheating issues lm aware of fortunately. I do constantly monitor dash when driving. My driving (1988) instructor was an ex RAF pilot. So used the 5 second rule for checking dials and mirrors. :rofl
It has been mightily cold here by the coast. Often -6 to -16c wind chill factor. Plus really cold last saturday on drive home from Swanley to Margate. But no issues over 65 miles. Temp normal all the way at 60mph.

Stuart

We are talking of local overheating in the plug area rather than general engine overheating.
