Trip Total Road Milage home to home 1024
I did 26 of those miles on petrol which costs rounded up 30p/mile
LPG costs £19.06 this side of north sea and euro 121.92 which at 0.98 is £119.48 in holland and germany, availability good, strangely the lpg got cheaper everytime I filled up on continent last one was euro 0.619/litre outside Arnhem

works out at 13.9 pence per mile on lpg and total trip fuel cost of 14.3 pence per mile :ok
oil used about 200 ml
coolant loss neglible

The cheapest LPG I found was just inside Holland on the A34 going east, 0.58/l. I was impressed with general LPG availability, in Holland it seems common to have all fuels including LPG together in one pump unit. They use the same filler as in UK.

very rough and quick add of everything but we travled in our camper (2wd 2.1dj) the total mileage from the speedo (with factory wheels and tyres) was 998miles, and we used 160liters of petrol. i make that around 28ish mpg. which i am quite happy with. as gettin to the first campsite we were diving at a steady 55-60mph and the following day getting to mumunt once the convoy had spit up we were cruzing with dave at a steady 65-70mph. and coming home we were driving with the traffic 50 to 70mph.

dosent realy matter as we had such a good time it cost what it cost.

All I can say, from my calculations of the Oettinger's fuel consumption, is that the petrol companies will be announcing a substantial profit this year. (BP shares will probably be a good buy) I was cruising at a steady 120 kph most of the way mind.

Thanks again for all your help this weekend and look forward to catching up with you soon.

I averaged 30.1mpg with the 'sofa' on the roof. We covered 1902 miles mostly cruising at 3200 rpm / 101km/hr which works out at 290 litres of fuel. I always bought the good stuff which varied from €1.22 to €1.46 per litre which averages out at €0.205 per mile or (.205 x .85) 17.42 pence / mile

Aidan where did you get your Euro/£ conversion rate?

in the real world it normally works out about 1:1 for us, but sure the best rate today is 0.85 but the banks doesn't give us that , more like 0.9325 and then it stiffs us another 1.25% just for being cheeky enough to want to pay in euros; I won't know exactly till I check my bank statement but I got stiffed buying euros on my debit card in the post office before I came away, it would have been cheaper to take a cash transaction and then buy the euros with cash

If the rate is better than 0.98 then even cheaper I'm happy either way it was a great trip and event and ace to see so many vans and syncronauts

Neil,

Have attempted to work out total MPG, it is coming out at 21 mpg average with 1300 miles traveled . Recon if we stuck to 50 mph we could have managed better, but lets be honest, it was never going to happen with me at the wheel and a big engine at the back :D .

21mpg that is pretty bloody good if you ask me. I get 18ish on the open road with my VR6. I've just tweaked with things a bit and replaced the Westy roof rack front section with the later U shaped front section so am hoping the economy has improved. When I first got the greedy cow she was giving me around 20mpg.

20 or 21mpg was what I got in the T4 VR6 Caravelle, who cares though when you smile everytime you put your foot down. :D

I've just worked out my mileage and was pleased to find that we averaged 28mpg over 1280 miles, including a few hours off roading. That may well be my truck's best ever result (AAZ syncro). I guess I owe some thanks to my mate's single cab - because it was a bit 'untested' and blew the top coolant hose 3 times, we only did about 55mph for most of the way! I'm sure the trekking around belgium that we did trying to find a new hose offset any gains though!!

I'm still wondering if I missed a fuel stop somewhere though...!

Just worked it out and we ran at 36 mpg, at a good 60-70 mph, running an Mtdi with 0.73 top gear and 225 15 tyres
Well pleased with that.

Just filled up lpg today so need to amend my figures to add in this fill
LPG £19.06 + today £32.83 plus the euro stuff £119.37, total LPG £171.37
17.17 p per mile on LPG and 17.49 p per mile total trip fuel economy
269.82 litres lpg
3.699 miles per litre
16.796 mpg on lpg
I get 19/20 on petrol, 140 k miles engine original, MV with lambda, uses a bit of oil, runs well

on lpg the fuel economy doesn't vary much, sit at 50 get another 5-8%, sit at 65 loose 5-8%, round town loose 5%
I cruise at 57-61, 3100-3300 rpm, on 205r14c road tyres
MTs knock 30% off my figures everytime
the back box knocks off a couple of percent too, must affect the drag

if the Oetinger does 21 mpg I'll eat my hat

Pete's mTDi is doing 14.5 p per mile then at average 115p/litre
