Polo bodge

Just come back to the fold after purchasing a Leisuredrive Hightop retirement project.Being delivered today. Has had the original petrol engine swapped out for a Polo diesel. At first look over it appears the swap is not brilliant. Dipstick too tall and the engine lid has a bulge hammered into it so the accelerator area doesn’t catch. Anyone out there running a decent conversion without the bodge. Would it have gone onto the same gearbox.
I’ll try and find the code when it gets on the drive.

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere

It’s pretty common to fit Vw diesels from other cars, you can swap or modify the fuel pump , the and fit a t25 diesel dip stick or bend it to fit properly

Diesel to AGG/ADY mk3 Golf petrol GTI is the most common. Sump tin swap, wiring loom & exhaust required. I guess you could change the bell housing to keep the original gearbox, but wouldn’t suit it from a revs perspective. Diesels are low revving engines aren’t they. Sorry, bit of a ramble. Personally, I’d be looking to put a petrol WBX back in it.

That sounds like an AEF engine then. Decently installed they are brilliant. Bodged, they are as bad as most other bodges.

Have a look at this thread, which deals with both the dipstick and throttle lever issues ( and many others), then post up some pictures, and we can take it from there. The AEF engine will fit onto a standard gearbox with a diesel bellhousing. It's all here..... http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/1-6cs ... page1.html
