Re: power windows

I fitted that kit a few weeks back. Was frustrating as hell due to the reasons outlined above. I ended up drilling new holes for the motor mount and all is fine once it's hidden behind the door card. Once in they work well enough, time will tell regarding longevity.

Re: Advice in removing Autosleeper Decals

Once you get the decals off you can use a caramel wheel attached to a drill to remove the glue. Just be sure to have a light touch and keep it moving.

Re: Split charge question

I'm using a sterling battery to battery charger. It's costly but does a nice job of managing the batteries. The split charge relay I was using previously wasn't nearly as good and never really managed anything better than a trickle.

Re: central locking kit maplins

I used a Maplin kit a few years back on an mgb. I found it to be weak and began to fail within a year. I recently fitted a Hawk kit on my van. Much stronger and better value, can't speak for longevity yet but so far so good :]

Re: Holdsworth Villa Gas Struts

I noticed these on ebay the other day. It looks like the dealer has a range of sizes, might be worth asking him.

Re: Best way to paint wheels?

Depends on the quality of finish you want or are willing to live with. Brush on hammerite will be the poorer finish but would look fine from a few feet away. Aerosol paints will go on smoother but may quickly flake off unless time is spent in preparation. Powder coating will give a hard wearing fini...

Re: Kamper fliptop internal paint

If it's so thick it has left quite a prominent texture, it's unlikely to be paint. Is it possible someone has badly skimmed it with some filler? It's much harder than paint and quite 'chalky', when sanded. Also, what abrasives are you using and are you doing it by hand or machine? It's still likely ...

Re: Kamper fliptop internal paint

When you say 'artex like paint', do you mean the gelcoat ? If it is, it's something that should really stay in place and just be smoothed out. Painting onto a fibrous surface generally gives a poor finish so not usually a good idea to take it back that far. Whatever the coating is, if it's reasonabl...

Identifying wheels

Hi, Just wondering if someone can help me identify the wheel in the pic below? I need to somehow find a center cap but I don't know what to ask for :)

Re: Need to replace front seats

It's not as simple as that. In most cases you'll need to modify the runners on the seat, maybe even in the van. You need to make sure they're not too high (seat base too thick) as you'll have little room for your legs under the steering wheel.

There's some good info in the wiki

How have you removed the paint? Have you taken it back to the fiberglass fibers?

Re: 240v Strip light

I'd be more tempted by led lighting and a good smart charger as has been suggested. The draw from led's is so little your leisure battery will remain pretty well topped up. You'll also be less dependent on a hook-up for lighting which is no bad thing. I'm currently weening myself from mains power, o...
