This link might be worth reading, partic the reference to EGT gauge for confirming jetting, fine tuning... (an easy relationship on a diesel more fuel, higher EGTs! Opposite to petrol with weakness putting up EGTs (due longer burn time)
Then there's this about different dizzies Vs certain carb types being used
