A new chapter about my VC

Post by Macflai »

Yeh I think something is happening here... dunno exactly but Syncropaddy was a witness about the function of my van's VC. When I was in Ireland was 0, kapputt, broken, roto...
Yesterday I was driving in an offroad area... in a section I was driving on "G" but losing some grip so I stopped and I put the rear diff lock, it engaged and I turned the steering wheel to the right and loosing the grip again... but suddenly a miracle: the front left tire was turning!! and the van got out!
WHAT THE H*LL IS GOING ON HERE??? I have driven in Ireland and through Europe 14,000 kms with different tire patterns and now THAT WORKS???
 :? :? :?: :?:

Just because your front wheel is turning doesn't mean that full drive is being delivered.

Bear in mind that the characteristics of the VC change dependent upon temperature, too.

Volkswagen Elves weilding little pots of Volkswagen Magic glue have been potching at your van in the middle of the night!!

The VC could just be scared that you will carry out your threat to dissasemble it and fix it yourself ;)

I will drive on a track I usually drive my Land Rover Defender, big holes, wheels almost the time in the air and engaging difflocks. The definitive test for the van; if I get to the end it means VC works, at least to move a bit the front wheels!

Rear traction with diff lock engaged can be quite effective in moving your van on its own; the only way Id be happy with the outcome is if that rear traction was lost completely and the fronts engaged and moved the van out of/over the obstacle.

I would have thought 'Engineering' those conditions on an off-road track is a bit hit and miss; but fingers crossed for you!

If suddenly at the first time I see VC doesn't work then I stop and drive back to home!

I won't drive 2WD on that track! Too hard and long for a 2WD!

Imagine that track... when it's muddy and I drive the Land Rover with other Landies prepared with winches, hi-lifts, sand tracks, Simex tires, long travelling suspensions, etc, we get the top (when we are lucky) in 4 or 5 hours!
But now the track is dusty and dry, I will take some vids and pics...

Yes my friend, I got home... now going to interviews to get a job (again) and then save money... I want a house like yours!

I think you've read the VC is working... When I get some money to spend on the van I will buy bigger rims as you told me... Merc ones on 15" and ET31... Have to check on scrapyards. Here there are a lot of Mercs so I think it won't be so difficult.

By the way do you have any pic of a JCB over a spare van?

Hope you and your family are okay, best wishes for you, amigo!

Hey Victor, glad to hear you got home alright! Id say that was an amazing trip you went on! Good to hear your VC is sort of behaving itself. Dont count on it though. It may well let you down again.

You'd get a portaloo or a phone box over here for 10,000! And with the way new apartments are being built, thats the sort of size most people my age are buying into! You have to strip the wallpaper to get the furniture in!
