Newbie Question

Post by andyb28 »

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and campervans, so hello to you all.
We have a 1988 Leisuredrive T25 and so far love it. However, we may have a small problem with our bed and as my wife isn't really into camping, I would like to resolve the problem ASAP so as not to put her off.

Please forgive me as I am new to all this and I am sure things have proper names, but I haven't learnt them yet.
Our camper has a pull out bed and what was the back seat cushion, becomes the middle section of the bed. Which you place in the gap between the other two. The problem is, this cushion sits higher than the other two and is rather uncomfortable. I am not really sure why its higher, but neither of us got a good nights sleep. We are back home now, so I would like to get it sorted before we try again.

Everything else about our first trip away was great and the kids loved sleeping in the hi-top.

Well, I hope to be a member here for a long time.

Regards
Andy

Could be a simple as someone replacing the seat sections foam and getting the size wrong. My old Leisuredrive bed was as flat as a pancake and THE most comfortable bed I've ever slept on!!

Image

The foam at the rear is 'built up/stuck to wooden frames to raise the height - check these haven't been discarded resulting in the foam being lower.

Image

Frankly, my money's on the centre section being wrong rather than both end sections.

oh, and welcome to the club :ok

Hi 1664,

Thanks for replying to my post, I will go an inspect it in a minute and will try to take some pictures.
Your ones do look nice and flat (and comfortable).

Sorry, I have just realised, its actually the rear cushion, the one thats over the engine thats raised up.

Here are some pictures, hopefully someone can point out whats wrong?
I realise the fabric is scrunched up at the back, but I try my best to flatten this back down before putting the back cushion in, but hopefully if you can see how much it is raised, you will see its way more than this could cause.

Seat still up here, showing the height of the rear section.

Bed pulled out, middle section not yet inserted.

Showing middle section again, bed out.

bed out, from different angle, middle section not inserted.

kind of the same again from a different angle.

This is the bed complete and hopefully showing the raised rear section.

Pic of from the rear, I have pulled the rear engine cover cushion back to show what its sitting on, not sure if thats normal?

Same as above from a different angle.

Bear in mind, my rear cusion is on a full length of chip board, so perhaps other campers, its cut off early, so that just the cusion sits on the other wooden part in the last pic?

Is the foam over the engine lid attached to that wood?

Yes it is, and it covers 100% of the foam.

Yes, I believe they are, thinking about this now, it would seem that the wood attached to the back of the engine cover foam is whats upsetting the heights.

Perhaps they aren't meant to have a wooden back on that rear cushion? Does anyone else have wood on theirs?

Give me a few minutes to study the pictures. As I mentioned, the rear sections are mounted on wood.......

Right then; in this picture you can clearly see that the rear cushion is just the right height to fit under the wardrobe side (which would suggest it's spot on - unless it has to be crushed in order to go under)

Image

and in this picture, you can see the centre section also lines up with the gap in the side of the wardrobe so technically there shouldn't be any height difference.

Image

however, clearly there is a difference once it's all in but I can't understand it. However, if you look at my photo of the bed with the tailgate raised you can see that I did not have the wooden piece that sits immediately over the engine cover and below the rear section - and if memory serves me correctly, my frames did not have a board across the bottom but were 'hollow'; that is if you turned them over they looked like an open 'box' without a lid. I can see your wooden base to the frame in this picture.

Image

So the six million dollar question is can this wood be removed and does it help if it is?

Whereabouts in the country are you? There maybe someone close by who can have a look............

Hi 1664,

I am in Essex, my brother in law has a Westy, but most of the interior is different. Perhaps I will flag down the next t25 that toots and waves :)
It would be great to see another one like mine to see if they have the wood.
