Lost 1st gear

Post by mattydubster »

Help! I was just coming home tonight and for some reason I lost 1st gear. No warning and no grinding but for some reason it feels like it's going to go into 1st but goes into 3rd!

Any ideas?

Cheers

matt

if you are lucky its a linkage problem........ if not contact aiden.

dont have a crystal ball, and you dont say what van - aircold, derv, petrol wbx , age ect.......

pop yourself under the van and check if everything is connected and nothing come loose. Ckeck the nut in the centre of the selector (The onion bit) on the side of the box is tight.

Hi. My van is a 1980 Swedish import 2l CV injection LHD. Had a look on the wiki and right at the bottom of the 'gearchange issues' page someone has put a bit on the 10mm nut under the gear selector coming loose on his LHD, subsequently he lost 1st & reverse gear. So will have a look at that later.

Thanks for your reply anyhoo :D

Actually Mocki, it was Sutton Bridge roundabout where it decided to play up  ....

check under the gaiter and make sure that the two holes are lined up, i had a similar issue and sorting that out solved it!
