Re: quality parts manufacturers
Hi all,
Does anyone know if the Schalburg brake shoes at GSF are good quality? The Pagid ones at my local ECP are out of stock.
Cheers
Myles

Re: quality parts manufacturers
They're fine as far as I'm concerned. Last set lasted several years before they needed replacing and that was simply old age rather than wear. Better makes tend to give better characteristics and this will fire up a whole debate on brake shoes I'm sure but they do the job.

Re: quality parts manufacturers
Just a quick comment about GSF generally. Yes I've had some crap from them (mainly boxed as Vetech), and also some excellent stuff. I have now learned to ask them about the quality of the parts. They are usually quite up front, and can often offer more than one range. For example I buy from their premium range of water pumps and have had no problems. Their steering rack gaiters didn't last till the next MOT. I never buy bearings from them any more!
I guess the rule of thumb here is "GSF Premium range, or get them elsewhere!"

Re: quality parts manufacturers
On brake discs they only seem to stock premium. You either get Jurid or Brembo - unless they have some plastic ones they can pull out from under the counter. Euro Car Parts have no brake discs anywhere and told me it could be many months before they restock. Much maligned as GSF is, it does keep stocks up whereas ECP buys a job lot (on a deal presumably), then lets them run out and theres then a big gap before they buy another pallet load.

Car Parts Direct .. any comments on parts. I expect no better worse than other rapid delivery parts chains.. ?
Can vouch for their Carlube oil... Carlube being a big producer
And part of the old Tetrosyl brand.
Their 75W90 Hypoid oil meets API 4 and API 5 which is handy.
£23.23 per gallon and suitable for ZF type gearboxes. So Ok in our transaxles I'm told.

Re: quality parts manufacturers
Hi all,
New to the forum and currently carrying out a lengthy restoration project. Need to get some replacement callipers, the rebuilt ones from Brickwerks are £70 each and require me to pay carriage for my old ones (Although I'm morally in favour of this principle) however with budget tight it's tempting to go with:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-T25-T3-197 ... 25a39e0997
Brand new at £55 each with free postage. They look like cast aluminium, in comparison to the OM steel and unknown to the quality of the casting. Can't find manufacturer info etc.
Has anyone anything to say about these/any happy customers? Any advice appreciated!
Same to the budget clutch slave cylinder on Brickwerks vs. the Bendix one ~£50 price difference
https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/ ... -1616.html
Many thanks,
Peter

Re: quality parts manufacturers
Steel sprayed silver - sorry. I've always rebuilt my own calipers with repair kits. I buy from various places personally.

Try these people,
they stock various sizes and grades, if the one in the link is not what your looking for.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. This is one of these components that I'd rather get from Brickwerks knowing that I'd be buying exactly what it says on the tin and not some ripped off copy that will fail in 12 months.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Re: quality parts manufacturers
Fair comment but it does not mean the hose above is poor quality either. Got mine from a local motor factors I trust, at half the price and it was excellent quality. Whatever is fitted it should be checked at least annually. The fact is, people don't - madness when you consider the long run.

Re: quality parts manufacturers
I've had hose from afs, not just an eBay store, take a look at their website, certainly not had any problems with what I bought around a year or so ago.
