What part is this?

Post by Llamapup »

Hello All

When using my left indicator the dash board light started flashing more quickly then normal. On investigation I identified that the front right indicator was not blinking. When I took a closer look I found that the wire connectors were rusty and brittle and just came apart in my hands. Here is a picture of the part that is broken:

I'm going to need to find a replacement before the MOT at the end of April. Do you reckon the part is called a "side lamp bulb holder"? It looks as though GSF only stock them in RH.

Thanks

Indicator lamp holder I would have thought. Side lights are in the headlamp unit.

:tsk

Side light bulb holder is in the indicator unit, but is a separate single bulb holder that fits in under the flasher bulb.

VW didn't make them like that. They are in the headlight

The bulbholder is the same for both sides, try VW, part number 171 953 053

^^^^ don't start them off again - you being an MOT'er and all!!

Seems some people have been refused MOT's because of them, whilst others have sailed through.....

I've got the clear indicators, and i've wired the side lights into them. Got the MOT hopefully next weekend. Can't see why it wont pass, lots of modern cars have this set up now. Used to have a similar thing on my Beetle with the USA spec headlights. Although you've got me worried now

What he said, sidelights are in the headlamp.
GSF sell seide light bulb holders, but they won't fix your broken indicator.

For some reason GSF only list the RH indicator bulb holder. Luckily a club 8090 member has come to my rescue so I'm sorted now.

Thanks for all your help identifying the part.

Kind thanks

pooh....I didn't think the bulb holder was handed....hope it fits!! aaahhh phew....jut looked at your picture, and it is the same orientation!! How lucky is that....actually think it is the identical part!! Part no. looks the same.

Anwyay, will be in the post lunchtime.

You need to work out how that much water got in there to rust it through like that....or maybe protect the new one with a thin film of vaseline or similar.

as long as the sidelight that stays on has a clear bulb not orange it'll pass, although I could be wrong of course but that's how mine passed
