Fuel tank breather gromet

I was investigating a smell of petrol in my newlt acquired T25 this week. Having a good feel over the (I suspect replaced as its in far too good condition) petrol tank, the breather line where it enters the tank on the filler side has snapped - the white palstic 'thingy' that takes the rubber tube and allows it to be incerted into the tank.
As a temp fix I've put a rubber gromet into the hole and another into the breather pipe and it seems to have stopped the smell of petrol - Just Kampers dont seem to sell a replacement, and the bumper bag of 'thingies' I already had from Halfords doesn't seem to have one the right size and configuration.
Anyone got any ideas? Or can I blank off and forget?

wouldnt blank it off mate the tank needs to vent to the 2 small tanks especialy if the van rolls over

You're probably right - looking at the haynes diagram i've never seen such a complex fuel tank set up - what's with the breather tanks?
The pipe in question spans from one side to the other and then to both tanks - is this in case it flips? Frankly if it flipped, I'd be outta there rather than worrying about saving petrol!

its not about you saving petrol.its about spilling petrol all over the road.causing a fire hazard...

yes, a bit awkard to get in i found but wasnt liking the loss of petrol so pleased its all fixed.

went with the first contact mentioned

put the tank up first then reach in from the wheel arch to 'plug in' the Y piece on each side.

I reckon that's how this must've broken in the first place - looks like a new ish tank, and I bet the Y pieces were put in before the tank was lifted up and its squished against the chassis breaking it. Not ideal!
