Can anyone tell me if diesel goes off over time as i've about 50 lts i have had in drums for a few years and am wondering if it is ok to use. Thanks Simon C.

Not sure mate, BUT we have 60,000 ltrs at work and it has been in steel tanks for 16 years and we run generators off it. If it has water in it it will be at the bottom but I once bought diesel from a superstore station that had water in it and it ruined my engine. Personally I think if you use it and it buggers up your engine £££££££££££,s . compared to a loss of £50 if you dump it. Sell it to a farmer with an old tractor

It can indeed go off, it can actually get infected by microorganisms that turn it into gloop.

Just filter it through a 5 micron filter as you would waste vegetable oil if your worried about anything in it and it will be OK to use. Just don't shake it up and disturb any water that may be at the bottom - normal procedure in countries where the diesel is delivered in oil drums.Put the bottom dregs into a see through container and you will see if there is any water present..
