Awning

Post by mf11 »

Well, going to take the plunge and buy a Khyam awning and wondered if anyone knows whether I need any of the accesory thingamjigs:

Kador Connection Strip
Kador Strip D Rings
Pole & Clamp Kit
SPS Groundsheet

Are any of these crucial? Wouldn't already come with a groundsheet?

Also, will it come with everything I need to attach it to the van? Link below:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael.

The Motordome Classic doesn't come with a groundsheet - I bought the footprint groundsheet a few weeks ago and I'd say it's really not worth the money. It's actually the wrong shape and doesn't have pegging eyelets down 2 of the sides... I even had to resort to asking the place where I bought it from which way round it went because it really isn't obvious! I may change my mind next week when I get it out again with the new knowledge of how to orientate it!

Regarding what accessories you will need to attach it to your van... you need to tell us if you have any kind of rail on the van really. I have a standard "C" shaped rail and I have to use standard Kador stip combined with the fig 8 strips that came with the awning. If you have a "J" rail I believe a pole & clamp kit is the way forward... other than that I don't know how people attach them! lol :ok

Figure 8 connecting strip and a 'J' rail fastened highish up (6'6" in our case on the hightop or highest solid point you can reach on a poptop. Clamp and pole .... SO bay window and rusty gutters.

Here is a picture of my rail (on my high-top Leisuredrive van), any advice on the right kit (D rings vs figure-of-8 thingy) would be great.

Cheers,

Michael.

You need the proper channel for the Caravanstore, (DO NOT be tempted by the cheaper stuff from C*****n suppliers) it has an open 'C' shape sloping downwards and with a flat strip to be screwed/rivetted onto your hitop.

I dont think the figure of eights will fit over the black trim you have on the gutter. Thats one of the problems we had. We fitted the rail to the side of the hightop and opted for the Kador strip and figure of eights. Works a treat

Have you bought it yet? If not I've got a brand new one for sale with an inner and pole/clamp fixing kit.
