Camper Theft Deterants

Hi all.

Lastnight some thugs tried to steal my campervan. Luckily they didnt get away with it and they have only taken the stereo and a few other bits from inside. Im totally gutted but im glad she wouldnt start for them and she stayed put. They only moved her a metre and give up.

They have knackered the sterring barrel and so i need to get that fixed but i can start it so thats one thing.

Im looking to know what security other fellow campers use on there vans. What does anyone recommend. Im alsothinking of getting an alarm fitted too.

sorry to hear about the van.it knocks you sick doesnt it.im going to get mine alarmed so ill be keeping an eye on this thread.

A big yellow steering wheel lock is good --clearly visible & another lock to break before van can be driven away--

sorry to hear about the van, unfortunatly its all too common now, jokerdub had his broken into the other week.
i always stick to a couple of simple rules.obviously an alarm with a flashing red light so that the sh**s know/think theres an alarm on it,
the steering wheel locks also a good deterent more so because it's so visible,
also i never leave anything on show like bags even if they have nowt expensive in them as they will still break your window just to see,
when parking, i always park where its quite busy, at night get it as close to a street light as possible if not on the drive,
i always follow these rules no matter where i am,
little things like "this vehicle is alarmed" stickers help too,
if you have stereo equipment in your bus then hide your amps,speakers etc out of the way, also the wires that lead to your amp and cd changers because these are "giveaway" signs that itll pay to break in
other than that unless youve got a garage then theres not much more you can do

Sorry to hear about your van... at least you've still got her though. I lived in S London for many years and had a couple of cars broken into. Although they never took alot it was the invasion of something personal that got to me.

With regards security on campers, an alarm would be good but even a red or blue led fitted to the dash which comes on when the ignition is off is a good deterrent. Also I've got a battery isolator on mine, hidden in the van. It's just a switch that you turn the battery on & off with a key.. JK do them quite cheap and effective and you can tell your insurance company that you have a mechanical immobiliser.
Assuming you'll need a new stereo, get a face off one and never keep the face in the van, realistically they won't rip out the stereo until they've found the face for it.
If you're going away for any length of time and leaving the van... take the distributor cap off, nice and easy to do and idiot opportunists won't have a clue. Hope this helps!

dont want to sound picky.but hes a tiger brindle.and hes gone grey around the muzzle since that photo was taken.hes 13 this year...

lovely dog ROB we have a little staffy now she is 6 mths old her name is DIXIE she will be at bus types so will have to introduce them 2
anyway goin back to security mine has an alarm and immobiliser fitted by PHILLIPACMAN 3 flashing blue LEDs and a steering wheel lock but taking all bags and valuables out or hiding them is a good idea to also i have tinted all my windows except drivers ands passenger windows limo black cant see nothin
