Anti-roll bar bush revisited
While working under the van noticed that the nearside bush at the end of the roll bar was detached and had moved back along the roll bar. Passed an MOT on Feb 7th and hardly used since !! I did SEARCH and the method that seemed to work for some was to put the new bush in the hole in the vertical Link and heat it in boiling water. Then put the link on the ground and use body weight to press and screw the detached anti roll bar through the new bush after lubricating , I used brake fluid. Would it go in heck and I'm 16 stone. So while watching TV I took a file to the flange at the end of the roll bar and filed a slight taper on the outside and polished the edges of the flange until smooth. I then took a Stanley Knife and with the blade lubricated with neat soap solution carved a slight lead on the inside edge of the hole of the new bush. Heated and lubricated again ,bit of pressure and twisting an it was in May not satisfy the purist but have been working on the van since beginning of February and am up to here with it. I did mine the other way up
I put the rubber bush in the end of the link bar, then carefully clamping the ARB vertically in a vice, I had my glamarous assistant (my father, bless him) holding onto the bottom or the ARB, dab the inside of the rubber bush with copper grease, and wrestle the link arm onto the ARB
it took probably 10 minutes each side, I'd read about putting the bush on the ARB first, there was no way I could see that one working, so the next best thing was the way we did it
it was a bugger to do, and I'm glad I won't hve to do it again in a hurry
