2.1 DJ WBX starting problems.

Post by raddo j »

Just done head gasket to cure a water leak on one side of an otherwise previously good starting running DJ, and now it fires once, but doesn't catch, and then fails to fire again. Defo got sparks, defo got fuel, injectors are squirting, in fact plugs seem to get wet very easily, no wires left disconnected, checked double checked and triple checked all connections, pipes etc, to be honest not much was disturbed.
Any ideas?

This is the exact symptom I had when my ECU developed an intermittent fault. Although in my case it came on after between 4 and 57 miles regardless of external temperature or humidity. It drove me to distraction and cost money replacing stuff. When the fault was present it just fired a couple of times when the key was turned then spun over with no further firing just like you describe. Have a go at cleaning connector as many contacts around that area as you can. And make sure your volages are holding up under starting conditions. If all else fails see if you can borrow a working ECU.
Cheers and good luck

thanks very much for your replies chaps, unfortunately that side of the engine had lost all compression, so we gave up and fitted the spare engine that we had. that seems to be running fine atm, just done 200 miles in it and all was well.

thanks again :D
