Some help please..

Hi folks,
Some help here would be very much appreciated.
I finally bought a campervan after seven years of waiting to turn 25 in order to get insurance. It's 83 high-top leisuredrive with a great body and interior and as i thought the engine aswell!
It had a Vento 1.9d engine fitted a month previous to me buying it.
After a few days of driving it had incredible overheating,the coolant cap popped off and i thought it was going to go on fire.
Anyway,i brought it to my mechanic friend who found six or seven leaks throughout the engine and isn't able to boost it,he thinks maybe the starter is screwed.

I know very little about these engines and was wondering whether anyone might be able to fill me in a little. Anyone had these problems before?

He reckoned i should look into getting a new engine so i would know exactly what is in there! So again, i'm not sure what kind of engine i would be looking for though..

I know,very amatureish indeed, but any help would be very welcome.

Hi and welcome!!!

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to help you. All my vans are petrol with standard VW engines.

Any further clues on the non-satrting will help the teccy blokes....a step by step account of what it does, doesn't do and should do will help them enourmously!

look in the wrong engines forum, erm, i mean alt engines forum......thats where all the wierd engine people hang out

After any engine install you need to go round and check all coolant pipe fixings and do them up.
