Still pondering....

Post by sherlock »

on getting my van done. Well thats not 100% true the fact is Im skint at the mo.
But my concern is that the price of LPG seems to be going up a wee bit rapid at the mo (as is petrol) Im just a bit concerned that it will be catching up with petrol in the not to distent future.

What do you think. Sherlock.

ever since i have run on lpg it has been about half the price of petrol, ( petrol was £0.66 pl and lpg was £0.32pl when i changed over) its now £1.07 pl for petrol and £0.54 for lpg, at the self same garage.... it not going to catch up anytime soon... it is going to go up, yes, but so will petrol and the devils fuel.......

as for affording it, why not get a new 0% for a year credit card, put the conversion on that, and pay it back within a year on what you save, ok, you wont be any better off while you are putting £25 of lpg in and £25 in the piggy bank to pay the card off, but you will still only be paying out the £50 that would have all gone in fools gold.....

and after its paid for its self, you still have that switch on the dash even if lpg goes up too much, converting back is just a flick of that switch

Two current 0% credit cards (recommended by a reliable source):

Hi Sherlock,
Well, did ya do it? Are all gas smugged up by Gasure?
If so how's it going and where did you put the tank? I too have a pop top and whilst keen to go LPG am really gonna miss the lack of storage. But will get used to it, I guess. Less crap to haul around  .
Cheers

Not yet Maxstu, Gasure are said to be the best about for Lpg but like all things/people that are good at there job you have to wait a while to get a look in. That said im getting it done next friday. Was going to camp up there the night before but now im gunna drive up at silly oclock in the morning.

It goes without saying I will keep you all up to date on how it goes and if as jed has said I return with a foooking big smug grin.

Safe journey mate and give us the lowdown on your return with twice as much petrol money still in yer wallet. :D
I agree about Gasure.. they sound tops from all the feedback on here... and I guess I'll make the 250 mile journey to them instead of using local bods if I go LPG too.
I know I should convert. But as the great Tommy Cooper once quipped....'it's not the principle but the money!' Get's me every time, that one.
By the way, is your conversion taking one day only?
cheers

OK job done. What a day, up at 3.30am drove there in the rain for about 8ish came back about 5.00 van ready for about 6.00. Walking around chester for a whole day on my tod was bloody hard work, I walked sodding miles, every shop in chester, walked mile to the pictures only to find all they were showing was kids films. The sad thing was I was so knacked at this point I almost watched some film about school kids getting lost on a trip but the thought of a grown bearded man sat on his own in the flics looks a bit shall we say dodgy. Anyway job done steve and his dad are top chaps and very welcoming. My return trip cost me about £18. thats 161 miles. Not bad. And yes it seems smoother at full throttle.

Congratulations sherlock, sounds like you had a fun day, well worth it in the long run though! Have you managed to spray yourself in the face yet when disconnecting the pump nozzle on the forecourt?! It took me a little while to work out how to lock the lever back when trying to fill-up!
