I got a piece of ply, oblong in shape, just enough to frame the facia of the head...... like a wooden washer.
once the sleeve is in it secures the "frame" to the dash ..there is usually enough room on the sleeve to allow this.
then just slide in the head...attaching all the connections as it goes in
I had a Pioneer that needed a half inch of extra room...painted black you couldn't tell

If you pull all the wiring back into the dash tape all your new wiring up you can get a head unit to fit in your dash, Ive managed to do it twice with no major hassle

Yes if you are careful u can cut and reshape the heaterbox, there is some room in there. I did on my last van. Or look for Land Rover stereo spacer plates that fit on the front...
O and pop the ashtray out so u can see whats going on with your wires and u can tuck em out the way nicely!!

Hi
I bought a spacer from a local car audio specialist, £2.00, they were about a tenner on e bay, so shop around.
Looks ok in situ, you wouldn't know it wasn't part of the original stereo.

My only toy now is a broken T25 and a sack full of BMX bikes. How the mighty have fallen (or got sensibler!!)
