HELP - Some kind of pump for the cooling system

Post by bertiethered »

I need help. Ive had some problems with the cooling system in my 1984 turbo diesel and have found out theres a pump thats leaking. theres a hose that comes from the oil filter cooler and goes into the pump and then a hose from the pump to the front of the van. Any ideas? I need the van for xmas!

Hi that the additional electric pump fitted to turbo diesel engine to help circulate the water after the engine is tuned off. And it comes on also when the temperature reaches about 107degree Celsius. Hope it make sense

you are lucky , I had to get one from Mr VW at a cost of £143!( some years ago)
It's never needed in our climate, so get a piece of pipe and bypass it.
If you go to a hot country just let it idle till engine cools, mine only came on when it had leaked and let the coolant out!, it then overheated .
(It does come on as a self test)
Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.
