1.9 dg wbx running rough

Post by filiphiruta »

Hi again guys, some recommendations or any ideas why my 1.9 WBX DG is running so rough? Im a bit of a novice in cars in general, first bus
I tried to change everything i could: vacuum hoses, water pump, thermostat, i did a full rebuild on my carb using brickwerks rebuild kit, fuel lines, oil and filters.
Didnt really have the chance to adjust the carb because im currently struggling with installing a RPM gauge so it's easier for me to see the revs.
Tried to check for airleaks but couldnt notice any change by spraying carb / break cleaner around vacuum hoses.
Also i dont know if you guys can hear it in the video but there are some noises that are similar to vacuum or some kind of air flow, i dont really know if that is normal or there s something wrong.
Please help, im really trying to take it out on our first drive together, already one year passed and i still didn't succeed to take my bus out for the first driveImage

Here you have link to the video of it running

Looks as if ignition leads 1 and 2 are wrong way round.
On the dissy cap the post at about 4pm goes to no 1 cylinder.

Do you think that might be it?

Just checked it, all leads are placed fine, probably because of the angle that the video was taken from:(, any other ideas?

Have you checked the ht leads or moved the dizzy?
Put up a comprehensive list of what you’ve checked.
What happens when you drive it?

Havent touched the leads or the dizzy

What i have already done:
-carb rebuild
-new spark plugs
-oil change
-air filter
-fuel filter
-fuel lines
-water pump
-bypass water pipes
-thermostat

I only drove it around my house because i didnt register the car yet, i was planning on getting some temporary plates so i can test it on a longer distance. Basically when i drove it around the house for like 3 km , it drives, i didnt notice anything weird, but when stationary the idle is rough and sometimes the engine almost dies. When the throttle is pressed the engine seems to work ok. Pretty responsive to throttle as far as i can tell considering im no expert
Thank youImage

I just watched the video with sound. I would suggest it is only running on three cylinders. No way is that revving freely.

Turn up the idle on the carb?

Ill try to do that but it s pretty confusing as there are 2 screws that affect the idle and one that affects the mixture, and as far as i saw online all need to be adjusted together, and also no rpm gauge

Try taking a plug cap off one at a time and see if it makes any difference. If taking one off and nothing changes, that one's not firing...

Try earthing a spare plug in the cap taken off to see if it's sparking.

New sparks, does that include leads, distributor cap and rotor arm?

Only spark plugs, I edited that afterwards, i was thinking maybe it will be missunderstood, should i take one lead at a time while the engine is running or should i start the engine with one lead disconnected?

Test the ht leads with a multimeter to rule them out. Give them a bend as you do it.

David.
Did the test, really weird, so:

I have 2 sets of leads as you can see in the video, the black one from BERU and the cheap silicone orange ones. The BERU ones have written on the 1k ohm on each end, not a total of 6k ohm as brickwerks mentions in that link.

The result for the testing is:
Cylinder 1: 1.96k ohm (BERU)
Cylinder 2: 2.13k ohm (BERU)
Cylinder 3: OL also weird ( orange lead )
Cylinder 4: 16k ohm - weird ( orange lead )

Supposedly if one cylinder is not firing, isnt the exhaust on that cylinder supposed to be cold? All 4 of mine get warm / hot

Also compression test result is :
1- 9
2-7
3-10
4-9
