Possible air lock in fuel line/ pump T25 1998 (diesel)

Post by NoobyNiall »

Hi all,

Lost power yesterday, not dead loss.
More like slowly lost power, fuel was low.

Anyway, it wouldn’t start.

Last night I topped up the fuel, this morning it ran for 1 min, spluttered a bit and eventually cut out.
Noted the fuel lines had some air in them, what’s the best way of clearing this Air?

Blocked fuel filter? I had gunk blocking the filter and the banjo connector from the tank. Same symptoms, gradual loss of power then could only crawl along at 5mph.

So pull it off, clean it out and re-install?

Cheers 👍

take it off and put a new filter on you mean, loosen one of the injector hoses and crank the engine that should bleed the air out then tighten it up when you get fuel coming through it.

Daleck cap is known to give problems. You could try to establish if it is working by blowing through it( so called quack test ) or better still buy a new quality replacement ( Blau from brickwerks should be good) ,easy fix if this is the problem.
Another likely reason for your coolant problems would be exhaust gasses getting past the head gasket, much more involved to repair!

Ok, got a new fuel filter, but I ended up shorting something while installing it, I think it was something on the starter/ glow plug circuits.

So another issue to deal with.

My glow plug light does not light up on the dash, where’s a good start? Did I blow the relay for the glow plugs? (Relay 60, in rear junction box) any easy checks?

Have you checked the banjo connector for crud?
I always fill a filter, oil or fuel, before fitting.

Would this be the same relay (I’m in Ireland, so looking for a local online store)
No Bricks and Mortar stores seem to carry many relays.

If your in Ireland there is vwspares.ie, air-cooled-parts.com or vantopia.ie . I am in Ireland as well and I use those three of I need parts and haven't been let down yet by them and the owners all seem nice and very clued in if you contact them.
