Hi All,
Recently overhauling my rear suspension whilst working on CV joints.
I followed the Haynes manual for the rear wheel bearings. Gently hammered the inner bearing into the housing until it hit the ridge inside. Manual said to do same for outer roller bearing with the inner race removed which I did. However the inner race when installed stands proud of the outer race/rollers a few MM and so I am wondering if I have driven the bearing too deep.
Is this possible? Is there not a ridge like for the inner bearing that prevents it going too deep?
I am now contemplating if I should try to knock it out slightly or indeed if this will be possible now it is assembled.
You can see that with the seal fitted it is slightly recessed also.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Re: Rear Outer Wheel Bearing - Too Deep?
Think I have now answered my own question. Found this on another forumn from someone with same issue. The HAynes manual says 'until seated', however there is no seat as such.
I will have to try and dissemble and hope I can reuse the bearings

Seal position is fine.
Bearing oter race should be level with the housing ridge as Samba post says.
You are fine if the spacer can move sideways under the bearing. The inner race is quite wide so it has big tolerance.

Re: Rear Outer Wheel Bearing - Too Deep?
I managed to gently tap the outer bearing a few mm outward and happier with the fit but still a bit worried about the centre race on the roller outer bearing.
Before:
After:
From some of the examples I have seen online people manage to fit them where the inner race is deeper and more aligned with the roller bearing
Example:
This is from a YouTube video of a mechanic fitting:
I wouldn't feel comfortable knocking the outer bearing any further out as it is currently flush with the recess. Fingers crossed all OK.
