A wiper question

Post by Bryce »

This may be a stupid question but I have nothing to compare it with and couldn't find anything in the search.

The spray for my windscreen only works when the wiper stalk is off so I have to spray then turn on the wipers. It won't work work if the wipers are in motion. Is this the same on all vans? Pretty annoying having to time the wipers to hit the spray

No, that's not normal. Sounds like you need a new wiper stalk

So can you use the washer when your wipers are going on your van? The stalk still pulls forward on mine but just won't spray unless the wipers are off

Now that's got me thinking there is something wrong with mine. My washer function has only ever worked with the wipers in the off position.

It does seem a bit silly to have it work that way. Be interesting to see if anyone else can shed some light

You need to clean the contacts on the wiper switch.. Had sp0gv'imilar issue, washers only worked on highest wiper speed and felt like I was going to snap the stalk doing it. They are small sprung contacts and over time no will need a clean.. Once I did that it works in every position wipers on or off. Obviously certain positions that are used more or less will wear corode differently..

Mine would spray when on. Although now I've fitted the relay with intermittent wipers.

Fitted a Golf wiper relay for intermittent wiping to mine. pull stalk towards you, sprays and wipes 5 times.
Can spray at any time when wipers are on.
