I need to remove the distributor drive from my 1990 DG 1.9 Transporter, I have seen a few posts which recommend using various methods, however can anyone tell me the definitive method of extraction please. I have seen a few adverts for a specific tool, looks a bit pricey and mostly advertised in the USA, (EMPI make them, unless I'm mistaken).
Thanks in advance

Re: Distributor drive removal issue, 1990 DG
If everything is clean and you engine isnt coked up with oxidized oil, you should be able to lift out the drive spindle using a strong magnet.
Be gentle when lifting it (it needs to be tickled out) because the two thrust washers that support the spindle usually stick to it and they do not clear the bronze drive wheel on the crankshaft so if you force it when lifting, the drive wheel can be damaged and bronze swarf will be shaved off into the cam gear housing of the engine.
