Gas lockers

I own a VW Type 25 camper that has a compartment for 2 gas bottles at the rear by the tailgate, one plumbed in for use and the other one spare. All secured in place and with the original air vent in the floor. However, I see that newish gas regulations state that gas bottles need to be stored in air tight gas lockers and a campsite we were thinking of booking mandates in its T&Cs that gas bottles must be kept in gas lockers. The problem we have is that we cannot find a commercial metal product that is small enough to fit in the space at the back of the van. Have any of you solved this problem?

I suspect the campsite rule is for a ‘locker’ rather than an ‘air tight locker’. There must be thousands of campers and motor homes that only have a locker. I would be most surprised if the campsite inspect every vehicle and caravan entering their site.

I think you will find that these “rules” do not include a vehicle if this age and will only apply to vehicles much newer …and then only for hire vehicles . However i am a little concerned that you have a drop vent into the engine bay ……. For as well as LPG being heavy and so dropping , engine fumes will rise through this vent into the cabin area

It is as fitted by UK Danbury in 1982, the the gas drop out vent is coupled to a steel that pipe goes to the outside world not into the engine bay. See page 9 of brochure. Page 10 shows the gas bottle at the rear.
