Engine number confusion

Post by Biggy »

Hi Everyone,

I need a bit of help identifying my engine. I was under the impression I had a 1.6D CS, but after trying to find the engine number to determine if I had an early or late model I am slightly confused.

I was expecting to find a serial number beginning with CS followed by a six figure number, instead there is a nine figure number, as well as a circular stamp and an alloy plate glued to the engine with several numbers on it.

The van was originaly owned by the German fire brigade and used as a mini bus, until a friend bought it off them approx 10 years ago. They brought it over here when they came to work and sold it me. I don't know if it being previously owned by a Goverment body makes any difference to the codes, but thought it was worth mentioning.Image

Here are few photos of the serial numbers and plate.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The engine no. is on the block not the head - roughly under the 3rd injector on a very rusty flat area.

It looks like the previous owner has made the same mistake when they imported the vehicle, as the nine digit number is down as the engine number on the V5.

Correct engine number has been found, after a bit of scrubbing with a toothbrush. It looks like I have an 'early' 1.6CS

Thanks again for the help

Interesting logo on the badge! Looks like a leaping hare in a circle, might have been the head or engine remanufacture company. google lens is no help.

I'm guessing because the van was in Germany at the time, it will be a German company. I tried the image search on Google as well but came up with nothing.

They might be out of business or changed their logo since.

Somewhat ironic using a hare on a 1.6 diesel. A tortoise would have been more appropriate. :D

I asumed it was a hare, its a device commonly used by German (Vaillant) and other European companies, probably pagan in origin.
