Stumbling block, looking at DVLA website under Vehicles exempt from vehicle tax states
If your vehicle was built before 1 January 1983, you can stop paying vehicle tax from 1 April 2023.

Is this out of date and should state before 1 January 1984 and change each year in 40 year incriments.

Historic MOT criteria

Post by clift_d »

That’s the situation in terms of which vehicles currently qualify. My understanding is that they update the dates every year, probably in April, to reflect the rolling date.

Don't believe anything those lying b**tards at dvla say - I have another complaint with them at present over a clerk there adding criteria to a form other than the requirements that are actually printed on it. ( previous complaint with them was over their staff being unable to understand the English language on a form - took 6 months of going higher and higher up the food chain for them to accept what was written on the form ) There is a trend developing here of them being more and more incompetent.

I don't think working from home helps, in an office environment, information can be exchanged easier.

As I believe, if manufactured before 01/01/1984, then it will be tax free from 01/04/2024.

Just the website needs updating.

PS
Oldiebut goodie, I've found the DVLA really helpful in the recent past.

Sent mine off 2 weeks ago with covering letter. V5 arrived back today, doesn't say historic anywhere, no communication from DVLA saying I have done anything wrong. Just wait until I have to tax it after next April I guess. 🤔

Still in process of doing mine, but nothing sent off yet. When I contacted DVLA the lady I spoke to said to write Historic in the tax class section on the V5C.

That's what I have done, sent it along with VW birth certificate (kept a copy) and form V112. Took around 2 weeks.

Not my camper but my 1982 honda cx500.. Just took the v5 to the post office they scanned the barcode on it confirmed it was now historic.. tax and mot exempt (currently sorn with no mot).
Gave me a receipt and said they have to post it.. I. Was expecting to have to fill. In forms but apparently not... Time will tell.. I guess I should finish it...

I think the unmodified criteria only affects the exemption from ongoing MOT requirements, not the 40 year historical definition.
