Thank AJ, I did not give any details like VIN in my email as unsure if it got to the right desk, I just explained my situation and offered to give VIN etc when they responded.

I sent my only email on 13/5/22 including the VIN, VRM, and owners name and address.
I received an email reply on 17th, saying the Dating Letter had been produced and was being sent. Had it within the week.
Amazing service, and it's free too!

Thanks again, I wil wait for a few more days and then ask once more, worth the effort for the gains, although I have a few more months before I qualify I think.

Recieved letter from a very helpfull VW group stating my VW T25 was manufactured in Nov 1983. Unsure of way ahead now on what documents I need to either fill in or change and send off to DVLA or is it done at the post office.

Fill out the V5 with the change of taxation class, post it along with a covering letter and the proof of date of manufacture letter from VW (make a copy of that letter first)  to DVLA

You'll be tax free from 01/04/24....

I did the historic tax at the PO for the Moto Gucci. The very nice man sent the V5 off for me after asking I wanted 6 or 12 months tax for £0.00 :) .

The camper was done via correspondence with the DVLA, I had the VW birth cert. and managed to get the Historic tax a year sooner. I phoned them up first and had a very helpful chat.

If the v5 already has the date of manufacture/first registered in it, is that satisfactory for that part of the process?

There should already be a date on the V5C, which they can work from, but my understanding is that this is typically the date of first registration. However, when we checked our van we found that the manufacturing date was actually the calendar year before it was registered. This means that we can get our V5C amended to show the earlier date, and as a result get it registered as a historical vehicle a year earlier than would otherwise have been the case.

Spoke to DVLA for more guidance, before I fill in any forms so as to get it right. They asked me what was the date of manufacture on the V5C, I explained there was only the date of registration on the form. Explained I had a Heritage letter from VW verifying manufacture date was earlier. Advised then to send this off with V5C amended to Historic in tax class change box, and to fill in a V10. Vehicle is already taxed so do not understand the latter V10?

I had to fill in V10 form. It's because your vehicles tax class class is changing.

See note A. of the link.

Thanks, I may go to the post office to deal with it as unsure what date to make it taxed from. Maybe I just have to fill in para 1,2 and 3.

From memory I filled in the V10 and sent the paperwork to the DVLA. It didn't take long for it to be processed, I was quite surprised how efficient they were.

Good luck.

Thanks again, how does the MOT exemption work, any forms to fill in, seen a V12 but this seems to be only needed if you are retaxing and need proof of an MOT or exemption.

Download a V112 form, fill it in (category ‘r’). I've always renewed tax online, never used the form....

Thanks, I also renew on line, I think using this process checks are made for insurance, current MOT etc before issuing Tax. Still trying to get my head around whole process. I am hoping getting the Tax exemption will automatically qualify for MOT exemption without filling in more forms.
