Lenso Bsx Bbs style wheels advice please

Post by Joe Wright »

Good morning all.
I am thinking of fitting some bbs style wheels to my T3. The ones I am looking at are 17x7.5 inch et 35 5x112 with a centre bore of 66.6mm and a load rating of 690kg on each wheel.
In my eyes this should work fine as long as I put the correct tyres on them.
What do you think?
Thanks
Joe

ET is too large for a 17" at that width. You need more like ET20, which will put the extra rim width outboard.
If the ET is too large, either the tyre wall or the wider rim will foul the top wishbone.
Take a look at willtheyfit.com

PS a forum search would reveal a lot of info on this topic

Thank you for that.
Unfortunately I have no idea what the current wheels offset is as they are aftermarket. I'll have to take one of the wheels off.

Hi all,
Sorry to bother you. After some advice as I am really confused about wheel tyre fitment. I'm looking at some 17x7.5 inch or 18x8 wheels for my t3. From what I have read that width will fit. I thought I'd need an offset between 30 and 39 like standard vw wheels but I had some advice saying because of the width of the wheels I'm looking at id need an offset of around 20. Despite trying to read everything I'm really confused.
Currently I have 19 inch wheels 9j rear 8 j front with an offset of 35 and 15mm spacers. I didn't fit them but in my head I've currently got an et of 20 which isn't ideal and i dont like the wheels. Just want to make sure I don't spend alot of money on things that don't fit. I'm aware I need 14mm bolts and a bore of 66.6mm.
All the best
Joe

Its a tricky one, because period 7x15 alloys are usually ET21-23 for tyre sidewall clearance, but as the wheels get bigger again the top wishbone/top ball joint is close to the rim but not the tyre sidewall, so the ET can increase a little but not much.
My first bus came with Porsche Carrera 7x17 and 8.5x17 iirc, with 225/50 and 255/45 tyres to keep the gearing correct. Porsche use an ET of 55 so both ends had spacer adaptors of around 30mm and front tyre/arch clearance was very tight because it was lowered.
