Battery charger question

Post by CoalMarx »

Can anyone help me with this please?
I am planning on running 2 x 105Ah SLA batteries and will be storing the van in a lock up with no power during the winter season. So I'm looking for a battery charger that will charge the batteries quickly as i jump between hook ups every couple of days (i.e. its not going to be maintaining the batteries). What are people's thoughts on this, is there any reason to pay more than this one on ebay (which is way lower price than other 40A chargers).

Depends i guess. Solar is a good investment, but as its in a lockup over winter that wont help. The victron stuff gets good reviews if not pricey, but when it comes to stuff like that personally its best to not skimp on buying something good quality when your plugging it into mains.

How are you going to charge the batteries during the winter?

No point having a 40amp charger , it’ll only charge at 40amps for minutes before dropping down to much less as the voltage rises . Better to install a solar panel on the shed roof with long fly leads to a mppt controller imho

Thanks for all the advice. I hadn't thought of solar panel on the shed roof, that would be a good option.

I think that has a fan which can be rather noisey .Might be better to get 2 slightly smaller chargers but without the fan but I guess you will need to seperate the batteries electrically whilst charging with 2 chargers.
