Seat belt Extension

Post by wbmkk »

I want to put in a child seat in the back of my van, but the current seat belt is too short to go around the car seat, so I need an extension.

I see some on ebay, but just wondering how good / safe these are.

the child seat will fit in the front, but I think I would prefer it at the rear.

thanks for any ideas / links for a suitable extension .. it's only an extra 300mm needed

Id get the 3 point seatbelt kit off brickwerks rather than risk some iffy extension setup. Simple enough to fit yourself

The only thing I can think of is that you swap the buckle / receiver for one with a longer stalk. That way there would be no difference in the method of attachment, and the receiver would still be a one piece fully tested item. You would however need to ensure that it doesn't clash with the child seat fittings - when we did the rear belts in our van we actually needed shorter receivers to make it work.

In theory they work, however they usually do not have certifications for onroad use. They might cause problems in unfortunate situations.

+1 on the new rear belts bought from reputable VW part sources - the new ones are longer than the originals as I read somewhere.
