Rear silencer 2.1 dj Syncro

just in the process of doing some prewinter syncro jobs before the puddles get colder and deeper.
2.1 dj the original vw rear silencer had parted company with the mounting collar.  I've welded it up along with a couple of small holes in the end plate. Is this a complete waste of time?

Does anyone who changed to subi perhaps have a better option gathering dust for sale please? 

Failing that what is the best longterm SS? option which allows for a normal oil filter? I do have an unused oil Setrab cooler + fittings and pipe somewhere which includes an adapter though I imagine this would further restrict space around the oil filter and make life more complicated?
