should i put these back?

Post by lexussoarer1996 »

While the gearbox is out i thought i would do the rear wheel bearings and trailing arm bushes , where the bearing hub carrier bolts to the trailing arm there are shims, one side has all 4 bolts shimmed the other side has shims on the top two bolts , opinions on whether i should put them back. Looks like a bodge to get around seized trailing arm bush bolts, I would delete, but that will require removing trailing arms for refurbishing and my reveal other issues like distorted body/accident damage etc...

Hi Aidan , both trailing arms are off the van and none of the bolts were seized ( fingers crossed but up to now every bolt has come out without any problems ) , i had thought it was some kind of suspension alignment bodge. The van actually drove really well without pulling to either side and the tyres are all wearing even.

Possibly a rudimentary camber adjustment

Thats what it looks like , some kind of South African bodge , although the drivers side had all 4 bolts shimmed the same amount in effect moving the wheel outwards slightly, i will put it together without them and have the alignment checked and take it from there.

Hi lloydy , i dont actually know if its lowered are there any measurements i can do ? , i agree one side looks like a poor camber adjustment but the drivers side had shims in all 4 bolts which wouldnt change the camber on that side, heres a pic of drivers side.Image
