What is the difference?

Post by Smiffo »

I've been keeping my eye out for an old DJ engine. Something to try and rebuild as a project over time. ( nothing wrong with my DG, so I have time and not worried about waiting. )
Nothing has surfaced that is for the cost I'd like to spend, but I did see a 2.1 SS engine?

Question is, what is the difference?
And, if it were to be rebuilt, what would need to be done to make it a DJ?
Is it like the MV with different piston types, or is it a DJ engine with different electronics only?

Feasible, not worth thinking about?

if i remember correctly the SS is a lower compression engine like the MV but with different ecu and injection
i have a SS which i used as a spare some years ago on a DG carb and manifold and it worked very well, very smooth , not quite as torquey as a DJ but nice than a DG.
the SS was quoted as 92BHP , rather than the 112BHP of the DJ , and 78BHP of the DG

Yes, I did some digging on the web, and found this site:

As you say, it does look like an MV, but slightly less power. I wonder what makes it lower powered?
ECU perhaps?
