Issue Starting

Post by herman_t25 »

Morning All,

recently got our T25 got a few issues to sort. One immediate one I'm having is he struggles to start at times.

At the weekend it struggled a few times to get going (though it was just cold) so didn't pay much attention. Next morning it wouldn't go at all. finally managed to start it after towing it across my field. Swapped the battery for a working one out of my golf and started fine.

took out again last night and the same issue again. started first time went for a drive then when I got home turned it off and tried to start again and nothing. (still using the newer battery)

Its trying to start but doesn't seem to want to fire. what's anyone's thoughts about where to start.

hopefully ruled out a bad battery by using two different ones.

I'm thinking either Alternator? starter motor maybe?

cheers

how are you trying to start it, you need to depress the throttle pedal once to engage the choke

If it's turning over then the fault isn't the alternator or the starter motor.

not this way! turning it over and giving it a bit of throttle. this could be why it works sometimes and others it doesn't! if that's what it was i'll kick myself    do you depress to engage and release or leave it depressed ?

Take the pipe off the pump outlet into a jar and see what the fuel delivery is like.
Take of the pump and measure the pump push rod( should be 100mm) and grease underneath it.
Fuel filter clean/ gauze filter clean int the cab’ inlet.
Will it fire up with a bit of fuel down the top of the car?
I’m assuming it’s a petrol with manual pump.
David.

As above, when starting from cold, depress accelerator pedal slowly, then release it, start engine, do not use accelerator. Starting a warm or hot engine, depress accelerator pedal slowly and hold in full throttle position, do not pump the pedal, release pedal as soon as engine starts. This is procedure for manual petrol.
