Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Somewhere there is a gas leak in this arrangement. Ive tested using soapy water without a conclusive answer.
I think it is one of the knobs and not any of the compression fittings.
To be on the side of safety l intend changing the whole lot. Afterall, it may well be 33 years old!
Trouble is finding 6mm gas manifolds!
Any clues please?
Regards
Stuart

Yep. Thanks Tobydog.
Looks like no other alternative. I really didnt want to lose the original fittings. But spent a few hours removing and cleaning everything today. No improvement.
Reassembled using gas tape and it still leaks. Narrowed down to the Fridge (F) twist knob leaking now. So nowt l can do about that.
Trouble is, l have a constant hissing in my ears from many, many miles riding motorcycles. So the sound of leaking gas is my forever companion!

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Do you really need taps for both ? Isn’t one cut off enough?

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Depends really on your usage I guess. My gas system doesn't have a cut off for the hobs and grill, but does for the fridge.
I thought about adding one for the grille/hob but as I turn those on and off from the bottle and I don't leave the gas on it makes no difference.
Stu, how does the gas valve help the 2.1 though
Bit of a bugger that, I'm on the side of caution if not paranoia with gas fittings. Id be brazing the lot vigorously if I were to remove or add to mine.

Don't really know? All the previous caravans and campers we've owned ran independent isolators for fridge and cooker.
I dont use gas for the fridge much anymore. Could fit the good isolator before the tee-piece. Then buy some 6mm compression joints and copper piping?

One less gas isolator can only help the wheezy 1.9 go faster!
I must spend more time ripping the kaput 2.1 apart!
Another big trip next weekend!

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
I never turn my gas off at the tank, i dont have a tap either , and no manifold as my fridge is only 12v .my hobs switch off on the tops and have thermo cut outs, so even turning them on accdentally lets no gas through without a flame .

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Ooooo fancy pants . Ours is an old hob so you turn the knob and gas hisses out, so I always make sure its off just incase .
Ah stu, that one less tap is at least 1hp increase
Maybe direct the gas leak backwards so when you get to a hill light it for an afterburner

Well another non starter and 25 quid down the swanny.
Replacement taps and copper pipe doesnt match original. I assume new stuff (6mm) is metric and old gear (6.7mm) is imperial or so. I did measure but thought l had read it correctly. Not so!
Collective problem solving please? Going camping Monday.

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Took everything apart again. Thoroughly cleaned and retaped all compression joints.
Screwed the two gas manifolds to my work bench and retightened all compression joints as tight as possible without hopefully damaging the olives. Then refitted it in camper.
Again tightened all joints to a reasonable force. Squirted the whole lot with soapy water and fired up the fridge. Fine. Working as it should.
Went indoors and returned after 15 mins.
No smelling as it did. but the soapy water spray revelled this....
Quarter turn nip up. A quick wipe down with a cloth followed by another soapy spray.
Waiting for outcome!

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Get all that gunk off those compression fittings! It is not needed, no paste/gloop/tape. Use copper olives for gas, you get a better seal as they are softer than the brass. ( recommended by Calor in one of their gas installation guides many years ago )
Take 1/8" off the end of the pipe - quite often people do not leave a gap and the olive will not seat correctly.

Re: Replacement Gas Manifold. 6mm
Really? But I cant source correct size replacement olives or pipe in this size of 6.7mm. So no cutting back by 1/8". Original olives are stuck on slightly crushed
to pipe, and olive/pipe position does not allow room for pipe cutter.
When l dismantled the joints each had red paste throughout and olives . . but l cleaned red paste all off threads. Kept the olives. And the tape is proper gas quality PTFE. AND it is not leaking now.
I used the correct method of 1.5 turns for each thread. Different to water.
I appreciate your advice and knowledge but if its not leaking then its staying until l can buy correct size replacement pipe and olives.

Are you sure it's not 1/4"? still available from caravanparts.co.uk
Just a thought if your measuring is a bit off, and it's old stuff...

Good point!
Didn't think along that line. My poor measuring likely.
A bit stupid of me, cos l ran additional copper pipe to the gas circuit when l fitted a propex heater. So there is a straight compression reducer inside my camper with the dimensions 8mm to 1/4".
Thanks
