Gearbox 3rd and 4th gear
I e just purchased a second hand gearbox whilst mine is being rebuilt, but when I try and adjust the linkage, I can't get all the gears, when I tweak it from having 1st and wed, I can't get 3rd,when I adjust it the other way I get 1st lose 2nd and get 3rd and 4th, any ideas? When the linkage is off and the gears are in neutral, should I be able to push it from 3rd and 4th? As I can't get either

Before the second hand box was fitted were you able to get all the gears by operating the nylon ball shift bracket on the gearbox by hand.

is it a 4 or 5 speed box ? sounds like either your linkage is worn including the ball and or cup and tips and or your a spline out. As Multisi has said drop off the linkage and you should be able to engage all gears by hand if not the box needs a rebuild

I got a used 5sp gbox that wouldnt shift to 1st, easily.
I did what the T3 workshop manual from Bently Ltd said to do.
I think the important bit was to remove the round cover plate off the side of the box and clean inside it.
Also I changed nylon bushes on the change rod.
