GoWesty PCB Diesel -BoD

Post by liakos1982 »

Hi, I am wondering whether any members have feedback on the GoWesty PCB and the buzzer of doom on Diesel vehicles?

I have a 1987 1.7D, I have been unable to get the BoD to activate on the GoWesty PCB. I have checked the oil sensors and the tachometer signal (W from alternator), but I cannot get the alarm to activate. When the high pressure sensor is disconnected and I hold the throttle down.

I'd try asking on the US based samba forums, in the Vanagon section. There'll be a lot more people there with the gowesty unit to offer help

Is the GoWesty unit late diesel specific ? ie has the diesel glow plug led and is it bod compliant with the wiring to the bod circuit in the binnacle behind the speedo ? US didn't get diesels after 1983 so I wonder why they would make a version of the pcb for anything but wbx.
US dash was slightly different to european one, they had seatbelt warning lamp which we didn't for example

The wires in the 14 pin connector relevant for the BOD seem identical between US and EU T3s.

12, 13 are for high, low pressure oil sensors, and 9 is for the tachometer signal.  As there were no Diesel BOD in the US, the only thing which might be different is the source of the tacho signal.

On the diesels, with the BOD, this is coming from the W lead on the alternator, where as on the the Petrol models it was coming off the ignition coil. Could this be a relevant issue?

The units are for sale on brickwerks and doesn't seem to identify anything not compatible with EU models excet the locaiton of the glow plug light

Everything about the unit worked out of the box and build qualty was great. I have never had an issues with it but wanted to test the BOD functionality and can't get it to buzz.

Also, to directly anwser your question, the BOD circuit is contained on the PCB. It doesn't use the one behind the speedometer.

The RPM signal is different in the petrol and diesel system as the petrol gets the signal from the coil while the diesel gets it from the alternator.
I am not sure how they managed to solve the problem, but maybe they just ignored it as US diesel models had no BOD.

Well, given the fact that it doesn't work, I won't assume they solved it, maybe thats the problem. I will hook the cluster up to a petrol car and see if this makes it buzz-
