2.1 dj high idle .....?

Post by spanishfly »

I have trawled the wiki/net first feel sure this is something simple.

Van starts first kick idles around 950rpm for about 5 secs then revs to 1700 and stays there. Including when running, hot or cold.

Earths to side of engine are good and clean.

Ditto block.

Vacuum hoses the (3 from the dizzy) are new and seem ok.

Temp 2 new(ish) measures 2453 ohms at ECU plug so within Bentleys' 2300-2700 range.

I swapped ECU's no difference.

Throttle switch clicks at both ends.

Cigar tube buzzes.

Should I try spraying brake cleaner around the AFM connections??

Answering my own question. Cigar tube buzzes but if disconnected the revs fall back to 950.

Does this mean the tube is faulty or could it be the black box behind the rear light?

Thanks

air bypass valve is sticking or is being told to allow air in, I'd take it off and give it a good cleaning with brake cleaner, and if possible try swapping out for a known good one, but it may be a fault with the idle control unit behind the rear lights, I have a couple of spare suffix As which are correct for DJ, I run MV so use suffix B or D
you can check the bypass valve is partially open by clamping the air hose feeding it, revs should drop

ImageSo this is the insides of my control box and there are a couple of burned looking components but no moisture damage....? There also seem to be some gluey wormlike castes? Are these resistors also toast? Are they toast at all? Seem to measure 56k...?Image

Have a word with Cobblers on here. He repaired my ECU. So worth having a chat with him.
