Paint off fiberglass when removing decals

Post by QuickBrownFox »

As per subject. I was taking some dodgy decals of my high top and it took a layer off underneath the sticker and has left what looks like yellow ish, patterned material underneath. Is that the fiberglass I can see?

Have I removed a gel coat and it's not a simple case of painting the affected area

All advice gratefully received

Regards

Andrew

It sounds as if you've taken off the layer of jel coat. Any chance of some pics to confirm.

Still no images, but hold fire for a bit until somebody else pops up and maybe able to view them or not.

I can see the pics well. Are you sure it isn't hardened old adhesive deposit? Have you tried scraping a bit off? It doesn't look like gelcoat removal to me.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. You've got me thinking now! In my head the yellow stuff Is lower than the white bit. I.e if I drag my nail then the white bit is raised from the yellow but I'll check tomorrow. Be a bit embarrassing if that's all it was  but I'd be happy if that was the case.

I'll report back

Is the surface smooth or is it rough. If it's smooth it's probably a repair but if it's rough to the touch it's probably fiberglass. Also is there a step on the change of colour or is it smooth. If smooth it's probably a repair. It's hard to see on the pics.
